A few weeks ago, Blair and I were lucky enough to be able to visit the “Sweetest Place on Earth” otherwise known as – Hershey, Pennsylvania. I have grown up loving Hershey, from the amusement park to the hotels to the restaurants to the never ending chocolate – it is always a great time.
Hershey is a little less than 2 hours from Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington, DC – making it the perfect little weekend getaway spot. With several highly rated hotels, shopping, restaurants galore and one of Pennsylvania’s, biggest independent breweries – it is totally worth planning the trip.
We were fortunate enough to stay at the Hershey Lodge, – it was our first time here and it did not disappoint. The Lodge has a very homey, cozy feel with its stone lined walls, fireplaces in room to room and its incredibly friendly staff. Our room was beautiful from the comfy beds that were covered in the signature Hershey Kiss printed sheets to the spacious bathroom. The lodge offers several in-house restaurants for every type of eater and a few bars. We loved the bar in the main lobby – the perfect place for a Chocolate Martini and to relax by the fire. In the morning we grabbed a warm cup of coffee from the Cocoa Beanery conveniently located right in the hotel.
Our day was spent exploring the Park. I felt like a little kid again getting on the Ferris Wheel and doing Bumper Cars. Eating Funnel Cakes loaded with chocolate. Make sure you stop into Chocolate World before you enter the park!!! We LOVED the Chocolate World Tour where we could learn how each Hershey Bar is made. Of course we had to load up our bags with our favorite Hershey’s candys : Reese’s and Almond Joy’s. YUM.
At night we visited the Hershey Hotel and had a drink at one of their beautiful restaurants, Trevi 5. The Hotel and the Lodge were so cheery with their decorations, music playing and the sounds of excited children running around. It was just so enjoyable to be in both places.
After grabbing a quick drink and some dinner, we headed over to Sweet Lights – Hersheys seasonal Christmas drive-thru light show. I will warn you that we waited in the car for nearly 2 hours to finally make it to the entrance ( YES, it is THAT popular! ) but when we finally got in, it was so magical. After driving through the lighted wonderland – we both felt TOTALLY in the Christmas spirit.
When it was time for us to say our goodbyes, we both were hit with a feeling of sadness. Our night at Hershey was one of the most pleasant experiences we have had in such a long time. We are already planning our next trip back. Check out all the great things Hershey has to offer and their amazing seasonal attractions here!
